Awesome first class...

Hey guys,

We had an awesome time at our first HCS Chess Class yesterday. We learned about all of the chess pieces and how they move. We also learned that taking control of the center of the board and letting Jesus take control of our center are the best first moves to make.

I have a couple of announcements.

So far we have 11 students attending the class, but we need at least one more to have an even number. It will also make for a more exciting tournament at the end of the year. So invite your friends to come join the class. If you know of anyone interested, ask them to contact me.

Also, if you have not given me your registration form, please have it to me by the next class.

Hope to see you all on the 21st.

New Class at HCS

Hi Hope Christian families,

I'm really excited about starting a new Strategies for Life chess class this year at Hope. We had a really good response Hope Day, and I'm looking forward to teaching your children.

Remember, classes start Wednesday, September 7, 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon. If you haven't turned in your registration form and fee, please mail it to the address on the form as soon as possible. I'm trying to determine if a second class is needed.

If you have any questions, contact me by phone or email, or leave a comment here.

See you soon!

At our last few meetings...

...we learned about pins and skewers, knowing the chessboard, Two Rooks Walking, and trying to avoid traps.

The memory verse from our most recent meeting is Matthew 6:13 -- "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil."

Hey everybody

I'm so glad that we have started our meetings again and was happy to see those of you who came. We prayed for those of you who were sick and unable to be with us. The Clarkes' new home is so easy to get to.

We have some new and exciting things to do this year:

First of all, you guys can now earn tickets for memorizing your Bible verses and solving puzzles! At the end of the semester, there will be prizes you can win--whoever has the most tickets will win the BIG prize.

Second, I would like for you to study all of the memory verses we've given out so far and be ready to say them to Jake or me within the next few meetings. Here is a list of the verses:

Mark 12:30
John 3:16
Proverbs 21:5
Matthew 7:15
Job 34:4
Proverbs 21:31
2 Corinthians 5:7

Remember for every verse you memorize, you get a ticket.

I look forward to seeing you next Tuesday, March 2. If you need directions emailed to you again, please let us know.

Previously....

Last time we talked about being aware of false teachers, because they can be anywhere. We know how to avoid them because Matthew 7:20 says, "Thus you will recognize them by their fruits."

Looking back...

Do you guys remember what we talked about at our last meeting?

We talked about how we should look at the entire board and what may happen next before we make our moves. If we don't, we could end up wasting the game in chess -- and in life, money, time, or even a friend.

Our next meeting

Hey guys, our next chess club meeting is not Sept. 29 but Oct. 6. Remember, we only have meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, not every other Tuesday.
